The ReflowR is a temperature controlled hot plate for reflowing surface mount components. There is no label on the system, so just look for the shine box with a red button and fan holes on the bottom.

It can be controlled via its single red button on the side of the system. After it powers up, quickly press the button to select the profile you wish to use. You will most likely want to press it 8 times to select the "User 1 Profile" which is configured for the smd291SNL solder paste.
However, the ReflowR is best controlled via its Android based application (search the Play Store for "ReflowR" or follow this link). The app may have issues on newer Android devices running 8.0 and later, but has been confirmed to work with Android 7.0 devices. Once the ReflowR is powered up, connect to its wireless network (the network name will start with "Reflowr.." and has no password) then run the mobile app. There is no web interface, so you will need the app. Once connected, selecting a profile will begin the heating process and you should be able to monitor the current temperature in the app. You may want to use the IR temperature gun (normally keep in the "Unit of Measure" section of the red tool cabinet) to monitor the temperature of your PCB components while heating.
Solder Paste[edit | edit source]
The ReflowR's default profiles only briefly exceed 220 degrees C, however, user profiles can be created for higher temperatures.
The small white chemical fridge at Make 717 can be used to store paste. Paste should be allowed to reach room temperature before being used (plan to take the paste out of the fridge about an hour prior to use).
